The way you made with the walls, as one ten-triangle of touching spheres in the parts' colors: lift the parts out and they stand in a row, 6 and 2 and 2; put them back and they close into one ten again. Next way breaks the last number that isn't 1, through all 42.
πPicture bookStep 15: four and three, five and two, six and one make seven; five and three, four and four, six and two, seven and one make eight; then seven and eight taken apart again, half of eight is four.
πClockThe seconds pile up one dot at a time and close into a ten-triangle at every ten; six tens make a minute and the minutes pile gets one more. Seconds gone and seconds to go always make 60. Read the seconds, set them, and find how many to go and how many gone.
π§Cube gameDip a 3 by 3 by 3 cube of dots in paint: the 8 corners get paint on 3 sides, the 12 edge dots on 2, the 6 face middles on 1 and the one hidden in the middle on none. Count each kind, then the other way: see some dots and say how many sides got paint. 8 + 12 + 6 + 1 = 27, every dot counted once.
π΄Five and Under gameEvery number has one color: one is red, two is orange, three is yellow, four is green, five is blue. See a pile of dots and tap the color that belongs to that many; then see a color and tap the pile that is that many β the piles are empty until the right one fills with its color. The color is how many, both ways in one round.
Steps 12 and 19: counting by twos, two more each time from two to ten, skipping one, three, five, seven and nine; then two go home each time, ten, eight, six, four, two, back to zero.
π΄Five and Under gameFive empty circles in the shape of five. Tap one and it fills and says its number, one, two, three, four, five, every dot wearing the color of how many there are; then tap the dots to take them away, four, three, two, one, none. One tap, one dot, up and back.
Two buddy towers under a ten ledge: stack the 3 on the 7 and they reach the ten exactly, a buddy is the height that is missing; pull it off again and 10 take away 3 is 7. All nine pairs, the one you painted first.
πPicture bookStep 10, doubles: one and one make two, up to five and five making ten, then each double splits back into two the same, half of ten is five.
πClockThe whole day as 24 dots, the morning row and the after-noon row: the hours gone fill up and the hours left stay empty, so at 5 in the afternoon 17 are gone (twelve and five) and 7 are left, 17 + 7 = 24. Read it and set it.
π§Cube gameGrow a cube one bigger and count the new dots: 8 grows to 27 with 19 more, three flats, three rods and a corner. Then shrink one smaller: 64 leaves 27, not 63.
Step 3: one and one make two, two and one make three, three and one or two and two make four, then each one taken apart again, down to two take away two leaves zero.
πClockA 4D clock: the hour, the minutes and the seconds swim round a fish tank as schools of number-fish. Every ten minutes is a school of ten in a triangle; at 39 to 40 the loose fish swim together into a new ten.
πClockThe minutes fill a chart of 6 rows of ten: every full row is a ten, so 10:43 is four full rows and three more, 43 gone and 17 to go. Read the chart and fill it to set a time.
πClockThe week as seven brown dots: which day it is, the days gone and the days to go (Thursday is 5 gone and 2 to go, 5 + 2 = 7), and how many days until Saturday. Read it and set it.
π§Cube gameWhat is inside a cube: peel the skin off 125 and 27 is left, peel 27 and 1 is left β then wrap it back up and count each skin, 125 β 27 = 98.
π§Cube gameStep 1 of peeling: a line has two ends, so peeling takes one dot off each end and it drops by two. 7 peels to 5, 3, 1; 6 peels to nothing. Then put the ends back on.
π§Cube gameStep 2 of peeling: lift the frame off a square. 5 Γ 5 = 25 is a frame of 16 round a 3 Γ 3 of 9, round 1 dot. Count each corner once, then put the frames back.
π§Cube gameStep 3 of peeling: a cube laid out as flat slices. Peel it and the top and bottom slices go, and every middle slice loses its frame: 125 = 27 inside + a skin of 25 + 25 + 16 + 16 + 16.
Minutes past the hour and minutes to the next one, side by side as tens and ones: 43 past ten and 17 to eleven always make 60.
πClockElapsed time: from 3:40 hop to 4:00 (20 minutes), then on to 4:15 (15 more), 35 minutes in all. Then the other way: what time is it 35 minutes later, and 35 minutes earlier.
πClockThe 24-hour clock: 17:30 is twelve and five more, so 5:30 in the afternoon. Read it both ways, and see the day's two twelves as a strip of 24 hour-dots.
π§Cube gameA box holds more cubes than it shows: count it in layers, then find the box that holds a number. A 3 by 3 by 3 shows 19 and holds 27.
π§Cube gameA dot is a length of one; ten in a row make a rod, ten rods a flat, ten flats a block of a thousand. Build it up, break it down, and turn it in 3D.
π§Cube gameCubes and cube roots in one round: an edge of 4 grows into a line, a square and a cube of 64, and 125 is found to stand on an edge of 5.
π§Cube gameA box sliced from the top, the front and the side is always the same number: 2 layers of 12, 3 of 8, 4 of 6. Then a hidden box shows one layer at a time.
